Technical Intern Training: Language and Skills Education Support / Comprehensive Support for Training Organizations

The Technical Intern Training Program originated in the late 1960s when Japanese companies operating overseas invited local employees to Japan for training, enabling them to transfer skills and knowledge back to their home countries. In 1981, a residence status for foreign trainees was established, and in 1993 the current Technical Intern Training system was formalized. Trainees can be employed under the same conditions as Japanese workers for a set period, allowing them to fully acquire skills while contributing to international cooperation.

The program covers 77 occupational categories and 139 operations across agriculture, fisheries, construction, food processing, and more. A new system launched in November 2017 strengthened protections for trainees and added nursing care as the first person-to-person service category.

As this program continues to grow in importance, we work closely with supervising organizations to identify and train high-quality intern candidates, and assist in smooth placement. We focus particularly on nursing care, providing pre-arrival language education necessary for passing the JLPT N3 (required from the second year onward), as well as ongoing support for host companies during the training period. Currently, our trainees are primarily from the Philippines and Vietnam, with plans to expand to other sending countries.
